Introduction

This blog is a simple research blog about “Global warming”what is it, what’s causing it and what is the world doing about it. I think this blog would be useful to anyone who’s trying to find out what global warming is or trying to gather information in order to write a research paper, report or presentation on global warming.
The structure of the blog is really simple there is a post called “Summary On Global Warming” which provides the basic information on the global warming problem which i have gatherd throughout my research. From then on the blog is structured as a web site catalogue every different post is about a single web site which contains information about global warming and in the post you can find a brief evaluation of the web site and there is a link provided to it.

Summary On Global Warming

Global warming: the gases in the atmosphere absorb incoming solar energy and the outgoing radiated energy of the earth, to varying extents. The so-called “green-house” gases are those that absorb the earth’s outgoing radiated energy, in effect acting like a thermal insulating blanket around the earth. In consequence of the gradual build up of green-house gases, arising from the activities of mankind, there has been a slight increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere; this is known as “Global warming”.

The consequences of global warming are substantial. Greater melting of the polar ice caps will lead to higher sea-water levels, putting much low-lying land at risk from flooding. Warmer climates are also expected to dramatically alter the ecology of many parts of the planet.

“Green house” gases come mainly from fossil fuel combustion (production of energy), aircrafts and motor vehicles
In order of contribution to the global warming effect, the following green-house gases are the most relevant: carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and ozone (O3).

Options for reducing “green house” gases emissions
Ø Use of renewable resources for power generation, particularly the use of wind power.
Ø Reducing carbon emissions from motor vehicles with more efficient public transport.
Ø Reducing carbon emissions from aircrafts by making air travel more expensive.

The Kyoto agreement – the most important agreement on global warming. The world's primary international agreement on combating global warming is the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol is an amendment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Countries that ratify this protocol commit to reduce their emissions of CO2 and five other greenhouse gases, or engage in emissions trading if they maintain or increase emissions of these gases. Developing countries are exempt from meeting emission standards in Kyoto. This includes China and India, the second and third largest emitters of CO2, behind the United States.

GlobalWarming.org

This web site is owned by Cooler Heads Coalition which is part of National Consumer Coalition USA and it is being updated by the Competitive Enterprise Institute there is full contact information provided. On that web site you can find daily updated news on global warming issues and complete information for the process of global warming and the Kyoto Protocol. The most useful feature of that site is the linkFor Studentswhich takes you to a page designed to help both high school and college level students gather information for papers, presentations, and debates. The site is updated daily and it is really easy to browse through it also provides a search system.

http://www.globalwarming.org/

World View Of Global Warming

http://www.worldviewofglobalwarming.org/

That web site is owned and created by Gary Braasch full contact information is provided. The site aims to show the effects of global warming mainly through photographs from different regions of the world. The scientific information in the site is all referenced and reliable. The site is well build and easy to browse through, but unfortunately the is no search tool.

DEFRA

http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/climatechange/index.htm

That is the official web site of DEFRA which is the organization dealing with all environmental issues in the UK. The site is really big and finding your way through it might prove to be a difficult task but the information on it is a lot and 100 % reliable. There are lots of links to documents and other related web sites which are also useful. That’s definitely the best web site if you are looking for information particularly for the UK region.

NASA's Earth Observatory

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/GlobalWarming/

“The purpose of NASA’s Earth Observatory is to provide a freely-accessible publication on the Internet where the public can obtain new satellite imagery and scientific information about our home planet. The focus is on Earth’s climate and environmental change.” That’s s brief description of the web site which if found on the site itself I don’t think I need to say anything else after all that’s NASA.

Ecobridge

http://www.ecobridge.org/content/g_cse.htm

This web site is owned by Ecobridge it provides wide range of information on global warming and nuclear and chemical pollution from news to archives of information on different global warming issues. The web site gives a nice overview of the problems of global warming and also it provides a theoretical solutions to some of the problems causing global warming.

The New York Times

http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/science/topics/globalwarming/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier

The provided link takes you to a part of the official web site of “The New York Times” on this web page you can find links to more than 1300 articles related to global warming. There is a search tool provided so that web page is useful if you are looking for some particular piece of information .

Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming

I think it is unnecessary to give you any information for Wikipedia I’m sure all of you have visited this site before when you were doing some research. The web site gives complete information for global warming from what the actual processes are to possible solutions for the problem.

Greenhouse crc org

http://www.greenhouse.crc.org.au/about_greenhouse/

That is an Australian web site dedicated to “green house”. The site is property of AGO (Australian Greenhouse Office). On it you can find huge amount of information on green hose gases, the greenhouse effect, Carbon cycle, world response, impact of green house gases and so on, the text information is supported by very useful charts, graphs, pictures and tables. Most of the information is general but if you are particularly interested in the Australian region this web site will be very useful source of information.

Renewable Energy Access

http://www.renewableenergyaccess.com/rea/home

RenewableEnergyAccess.com was started in 1998 by a group of Renewable Energy professionals who wanted their work to relate to their passion for renewable energy. That web site provides complete set of information on renewable energy from history to latest technology and news in renewable energy. Very useful section of the site is the one called Renewable Energy Technology Basics there you can find information about Solar energy, Green power, Ocean energy, Hydrogen, Hydro power, Wind power and so on.

Greenhouse Gases and Society

http://www.umich.edu/~gs265/society/greenhouse.htm

This web page is created by Nick Hopwood and Jordan Cohen there is no contact or personal details provided for the authors but the information in the page look really well structured and referenced and in my personal opinion is perfectly reliable. The page is mainly dedicated to “green house” gases there are lots of useful pictures, graphs, charts and tables.
